TurboFlow Columns
Our patented TurboFlow columns, used exclusively with the optimized TLX Systems, are the only columns available to perform turbulent flow chromatography. The columns are offered in a wide range of packing chemistries for diverse applications. The broad range of chemistries provides separation flexibility to accommodate variations in the compounds' structure, polarity, and solubility.
TurboFlow vs. HPLC Columns
Direct injection of biological samples into conventional HPLC columns often results in a swift and substantial loss of column efficiency. In an effort to avoid this problem, our scientists determined that turbulent flow could be induced in narrow-bore columns at moderate flow rates and back pressures. Under such conditions, selected analytes could quickly be separated from the sample matrix. The analyte fraction could then be directed to a selective detector, such as an MS, or further separated by HPLC prior to detection.
This discovery led to the development of TLX Systems and TurboFlow columns, which mitigate the potential for compromised column efficiency, and eliminate time-consuming and error-prone sample preparation procedures associated with HPLC.
Eliminate Sample Preparation
The sensitivity and specificity of LC-MS/MS has made it a preferred method for quantitatively measuring drug concentrations in plasma. However, the time necessary to prepare biofluid samples prior to LC-MS/MS analysis can be considerable, precluding its use as a high throughput technique. Fortunately, TLX Systems eliminate many sample preparation procedures, such as protein precipitation, liquid/liquid extraction, and solid phase extraction, by allowing direct injection of biofluid samples into an MS/MS system. By reducing or eliminating sample preparation steps, enhancing reliability, and speeding the process overall, we deliver higher sample throughput and lower costs.
The Right TurboFlow Column for Every Analyte
Our patented TurboFlow columns are available in a variety of packing chemistries. Choose the most appropriate TurboFlow column by determining the overall polarity of the analyte, the mobile phase needed to solubilize it, and the sample matrix from which it must be extracted.
TurboFLow columns are offered in two geometries. For users of the standard systems, 1.0 x 50 mm columns operated at 5 mL/min loading flow rates will enable a wide variety of bioanalytical applications with high capacity. In addition, 0.5 x 50 mm TurboFlow columns are available, which greatly reduce solvent consumption while enhancing sensitivity. These columns operate at one fourth the flow rate of the 1.0 mm columns.
